Township outlines school security upgrades, playground replacements and access changes

Carneys Point's police chief described planned security and facility upgrades for local schools during the Nov. 18 township meeting. Chief D. VanNamee said Field Street and Carlton schools will get new playground equipment, some doors at the middle and high schools will be replaced, and new foyer entrances will be constructed to manage building access.
During public comment Patty Bomba asked the chief to repeat the changes. Chief VanNamee said, "no longer will people be able to just walk into the schools. There will be a foyer to enter into and then security will meet you there." He also clarified that visitors who need elevator access can enter from the Smith Ave side of the building to reach an elevator.
The committee did not adopt a separate formal resolution on the school work at the meeting; the chief provided the project summary as part of departmental reporting and security planning.
