Tompkins County approved a multi‑partner pledge that establishes a balance‑sheet allocation in the event a revenue guarantee for United Airlines service is called. The Chamber, Ithaca College, Cornell University and others have pledged partner amounts; the county’s resolution set aside partner funds as a contingency rather than an immediate expenditure.
County officials said United aims to add service as soon as October if contractual items are finalized. The clerk recorded a unanimous vote. County administration and airport staff said the pledge mechanism has been used previously and typically has not been tapped; if it were, partners would share the shortfall proportionally rather than assigning priority to any single partner.
Legislators said the arrangement is intended to support economic development and air‑service reliability while minimizing fiscal risk for the county.
