Board adds Good Friday to Smyth County 2026 holiday schedule

Smyth County supervisors adopted the state holiday schedule for 2026 and included Good Friday as a county holiday during their Jan. 8 organizational meeting.
Staff noted that Good Friday will fall on April 3 this year and recommended adding it to the county's schedule. "Theoretically, we're gonna adopt the state with the addition of Good Friday," a board representative said. Members discussed that the holiday decision can be revised later if operational needs change; the board approved the holiday list by voice vote.
The approved schedule also carried standard state holidays with a half-day designation on the day before Thanksgiving and other customary adjustments.
