At its Jan. 8 organizational meeting, the Smyth County Board of Supervisors adopted its 2026 meeting schedule and amended Rule 4.6 to change packet distribution timing.
Staff presented a calendar proposing second- and fourth-Thursday meetings each month, with only one meeting in November and December. A member recommended changing Rule 4.6 so packets are distributed "on or before the Monday preceding the meeting" instead of the previous Friday schedule; the board approved the amendment and then adopted the rules as amended. "What we'd recommend is on or before the Monday preceding the meeting because we we do the packets on Mondays instead of Fridays," the staff member said.
Board members agreed the change should make scheduling easier, particularly when planning commission hearings require coordination. The amended rule and the calendar were approved by majority voice vote.
