The council adopted a rental property licensing and inspection policy that requires homeowners who rent their properties to obtain an initial inspection through Metro West, pay an initial fee, and renew the license every three years. Staff said inspections would occur every three years thereafter and new rentals would be subject to inspection at the time they enter the program.
"We are looking at implementing a rental licensing policy where homeowners that are renting out their property will have to do a... initial inspection, which will be done through Metro West," staff member Christy explained. The council voted to accept the policy and set an effective date of Jan. 1, 2026. If serious concerns are discovered outside the inspection cycle, staff said they would respond immediately.
Staff will publish the fee schedule and inspection process prior to the effective date and coordinate with property owners to ensure compliance.
