Montrose joins Wright County chipper partnership to address storm and brush debris

The City of Montrose authorized staff to pursue a partnership with Wright County to use a large chipper for residential brush, including storm debris.
Staff explained the MOU proposal: Wright County would bring a chipper capable of processing material up to 2 feet in diameter and provide labor; the quote in the packet is about $450 per hour and includes the chipper and county labor. The city would be responsible for preparing the drop-off site and excluding stumps, plastic bags and other non-compostables. Staff emphasized that the county is gauging municipal interest before purchasing the machine.
A council member moved to approve the MOU for participation; the motion passed 4–0. Staff said the agreement is nonbinding on days of use and that the city’s compost site currently accepts material up to 2-inch diameter, so the county machine would expand capacity for larger material.
