A board member who attended two OSBA events briefed the board on policy developments and professional development opportunities.
She said OSBA is circulating a draft policy on school responses to ICE/immigration matters that districts should review before an expected vote by Sept. 30. "It is in draft form. I have it. We can talk about it more," the board member said, urging colleagues to await the final language before adopting a local response.
The member also reported on PACE training that illustrated the long, expensive 'life of a claim' process for certain employment and liability claims and recommended board members attend PACE sessions to understand pre-loss programs and risk management. The board discussed conference scheduling, travel costs, and the possibility of creating a simple board-development budget or training list to inform who attends which events.
