Residents reported repeated late-night fireworks in the vicinity of Howard Street and the Covelo Cave/RVIT health and safety complex, raising concerns about noise, sleep disruption and fire risk. Council members said calls to dispatch are logged but deputies are not always physically present in the valley at night, making investigation difficult until officers return to the area.
Lt. Dustin Lorenzo said deputies will respond when present but coverage varies; tribal police know some of the participants and suggested MCSO coordinate with tribal officers. The council discussed outreach and possible festival education and agreed to continue monitoring the situation and coordinate with law enforcement and tribal authorities where appropriate.
