The Markham City Council on Jan. 7 approved donating two surplus squad cars to the Village of Mounds under Ordinance 26-O-2428.
City Attorney Steven Miller read the caption for a refunding ordinance earlier in the meeting; Council later waived the 48-hour reading requirement for Ordinance 26-O-2428 and voted 4-0 to adopt the conveyance. Ald. William Barron asked how the vehicles ended up in Mounds; Mayor Roger Agpawa said the donation followed meetings with a coalition of mayors in Springfield and was meant to help a neighboring community with economic challenges.
The adoption was handled by a recorded motion; no additional financial consideration or debate was recorded during the meeting.
