Guardian says Markham resident still awaiting $284 SSSRA reimbursement; mayor pledges follow-up

At the Jan. 7 meeting a Markham resident said she paid for a child's SSSRA program because the city is not a co-op member and that a promised $284 reimbursement never arrived.
Maggie Powers said she recently became legal guardian of a child with disabilities and attempted to enroll the child in SSSRA programs, but Markham is not part of the cooperative program, forcing her to pay out of pocket. She said the Park District told her she would be reimbursed $284, but she has not received payment and that communication from the Park District has since ceased.
Mayor Roger Agpawa called the issue a "service concern," said staff would investigate, and confirmed Ms. Powers would receive the $284 reimbursement. He also told the Council the City is aware of a legal matter with the Park District that the city hopes to resolve. Ald. Joseph Bertrand Jr., citing his prior service on SSSRA's board, offered to speak with Ms. Powers after the meeting to try to help resolve the issue.
The exchange was recorded during the public-comment period; Council took no separate formal vote on this item during the meeting.
