Freeburg trustees approve December minutes, welcome new police officer

Mayor Seth Speiser called the Freeburg Village Board to order at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2025, and roll call showed seven trustees present, establishing a quorum. Trustee Elizabeth (Lisa) Meehling moved to accept the minutes of the Dec. 2, 2024 meeting and Trustee James (Mike) Blaies seconded; "All voting aye, the motion carried." Trustee Blaies then moved to accept the Dec. 16, 2024 minutes and Ramon Matchett Jr. seconded; that motion also carried by voice vote.
Village Administrator Matt Trout introduced new police officer Andrew Hessel to the board. Multiple trustees offered brief welcomes; Trustee Tom Carpenter said, "Welcome Andrew," and others echoed appreciation for the department’s work. Public Works Director John Tolan and several trustees thanked public works staff for working late during recent snow and handling equipment breakdowns.
The board noted routine committee and staff reports were provided and scheduled upcoming committee meetings on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15. Mayor Speiser called for adjournment at 7:43 p.m.; Trustee Elizabeth (Lisa) Meehling moved to adjourn and the motion carried.
