Council approves parcel rate increase for township fire protection to $200

The Montrose City Council voted unanimously to increase the per-parcel charge for township fire protection from $175 to $200, effective for the 2026 billing cycle.
Council discussed a proposed new formula that would combine market value and average call volume to determine township billing. Staff and township officials said calculating a correct market-value figure will require additional county work; as an interim measure, staff recommended—and council approved—a flat $25 increase to $200 per parcel for the coming year.
Jackie Hines and Fire Department staff described outreach to Woodland Township and said Woodland signed a contract agreeing to the interim rate. On equipment disposal, staff asked for direction on selling an old department trailer and will solicit firm offers from local trailer vendors before moving to auction or a staff-open sale window.
Mayor moved the contract-rate increase; the motion passed 5-0.
