The Scottsbluff Public Schools Board of Education voted to award the auditorium renovation base bid and both alternates to Anderson Shaw Construction for a total of $988,312.56. Board members and staff described work that will be bid and value-engineered items that were removed from the scope to reduce cost.
Presenting the project, Mary Anne said the district "anticipates that the amount that we will proceed with Anderson Shaw to be $635,932.51," and explained that certain items (lighting, decorative control‑booth paneling, some plumbing/HVAC and vestibule doors) were moved to a deductive change order after value engineering. The board discussed funding: the Scottsbluff Public Schools Foundation agreed to increase its contribution to about $380,000 if the district matches that amount; the district plans to draw from depreciation funds and QCPUF dollars for the remainder.
Board members and district staff emphasized heavy daily use of the auditorium by classes, concerts and community events. Brad, who assisted in the design process, told the board he was "comfortable with the things that we are looking at deducting" and noted the facility is booked frequently for school and community uses. The motion to award the contract was moved and seconded and approved by roll call.
