Board members reviewed the district's option-enrollment capacity resolution, which lays out maximum student capacity figures compiled from principals across the district. A staff presenter explained the district starts with these capacity numbers and then makes individualized decisions on each incoming option request, noting special-education caseload limits are part of the calculation. "These are the numbers that, when we go to look, we start with and then we have to make individualized decisions on every student," the presenter said.
After brief discussion, a motion to approve the resolution was offered (motion by Schwartz, second by Merrigan) and the board approved the policy as presented. Staff said the capacity table will be applied consistently but that individual circumstances (including special-education needs) will guide final determinations.
