Comal County to apply for comalcounty.gov domain and fund new website hosting

Comal County's IT leadership told the Commissioners Court on Feb. 27 it will apply to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) for a comalcounty.gov domain and roll out a refreshed county website under that domain.
The IT director said the county chose comalcounty.gov (rather than comal.gov) to avoid confusion with nearby entities and to present a short, clear domain that signals county government. Staff described obtaining a .gov domain as a cybersecurity best practice and said CISA will verify the county during application review.
The court also approved a line-item transfer to cover website hosting and content-management expenses associated with the new domain. The IT director described the domain and new website as a public-facing refresh and said the county anticipated receiving the domain unless CISA verification raised issues.
Commissioners voiced support for the change, calling the name "short and sweet" and saying it will improve communications. No launch date was set in the public discussion; staff noted the website rollout is expected to occur around the same time as the domain go-live.
