Court authorizes TCEQ owner form for Smithson Valley Road Bridge project
Summary
Comal County authorized submission of a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality owner-authorization form so a Bexar County engineer can proceed with the Smithson Valley Road Bridge reconstruction and water-pollution-abatement planning for the Edwards Recharge Zone.
Comal County Commissioners authorized submission of an owner-authorization form to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on Feb. 27 to allow Bexar County staff to pursue required water-pollution-abatement permitting for the Smithson Valley Road Bridge project.
County staff said the project — a relocation of the Smithson Valley Road bridge to the north and tie-in to FM 1863 done in partnership with Bexar County — will start construction in 2025. Because the project lies in the Edwards Recharge Zone, it requires a water-pollution-abatement plan. Staff said authorizing Bexar County engineer Reggie Fountain to submit the application will allow the permitting process to continue.
The court approved the authorization and directed the County Judge to sign the owner-authorization form so the application may proceed. No construction contract or final schedule was presented during the public portion of the meeting.
