Major Delgado presented a recommendation to accept a fiscal year 2024 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) award from the Bureau of Justice Assistance in the amount of $67,291 to support incarceration-related costs for undocumented criminal aliens and related correctional services. He proposed splitting the funds to cover overtime and offender-management technology.
The court approved the acceptance and authorized the county judge to accept via electronic acceptance. In response to a commissioner’s question, Major Delgado stated the jail is currently housing 36 relevant detainees; he said ICE had contacted the jail during the week to confirm counts.
