Resident urges Comal County to restore access to Canyon Lake, praises hydrilla for fishing

During the citizen comment period at the Feb. 13 meeting, Wimberley resident Terry Odom urged Comal County officials to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to restore or negotiate temporary access to Canyon Lake boat ramps that he said are currently closed.
Odom recounted long familiarity with the lake and argued aquatic vegetation (hydrilla) has benefited fishing and the lake ecosystem. "But, anyway, the hydrilla in Canyon Lake has improved the fishing at least a 100%, maybe more than that," Odom said, describing tournament‑weight increases and overall improved fish reproduction. He asked the court to seek temporary access to the lake for anglers and said cooperation with the Corps will be necessary while reservoir levels and management are assessed.
The judge thanked Odom for his comments and said the court would continue to work with the Corps to address access while lake levels are low. No formal action related to the lake or vegetation management was taken at the meeting; the remarks were recorded as public comment.
