During the citizen-comment portion of the March 6 meeting, Michelle Flores, president of Ascend Texas Speech and Debate Club, asked the court to help recruit community judges for a student tournament March 27–29 at First Protestant Church.
"My name is Michelle Flores, and I'm the president of Ascend Texas speech and debate club," Flores said, and students described the tournament and the need for volunteers to judge two- to three-hour rounds. A student representative said the club offers judge orientation and provides homemade meals, door prizes and service-hour certificates; college students who judge can be paid $10 per round. The commissioners thanked the group and accepted materials offered by the students.
