Comal County public health summarizes 2024 clinic services, surveillance and outreach

Cheryl Frazier, a Comal County public health official, presented the department’s 2024 annual report and highlighted clinical services, surveillance work and community outreach. She reported that the public health clinic administered 3,363 vaccines in clinic and conducted off-site immunization events, laboratory reporting and screening services; the department also performed hearing and vision screenings, TB skin tests and STI treatments during the year.
Frazier described ongoing epidemiology and surveillance work, noting the department received and reviewed 2,361 electronic lab reports in 2024 and confirmed 325 reportable cases after investigation. She said the county has seen an uptick in rabies among local wildlife—bats, cats, foxes and coyotes—and emphasized that rabies is nearly always fatal if untreated. The department also provides Narcan and stop-the-bleed training for first responders and coordinates vaccine programs (including the Texas Vaccines for Children program and an adult safety-net program) with local providers and partners.
Frazier encouraged residents to meet the property-tax deadline (Jan. 31) and to use county payment options, and she closed by providing the public health office’s hours and contact number for further information.
