Board adopts several new policies and approves broad policy revisions to comply with statute
Summary
The board adopted four new policies immediately (including foster care student transportation and cell-phone rules) and approved statutory revisions across a broad set of policies such as anti-discrimination, procurement, FERPA notification and safe driving standards.
Chair (S2) presented two related policy actions: adoption of four board policies effective immediately and a separate motion to revise numerous other policies to align with statutory changes and implementation timelines. The adopted items included policy 5507 (foster care student transportation), 6113 (electronic communication devices and cell phones), 6287 (plagiarism, copyrights and patents), and 6931 (behavioral intervention and classroom management). Motion to adopt these policies was made by Snyder and seconded by Polk; roll-call votes were recorded and the adoptions carried.
On the revisions, Chair (S2) explained the changes were mainly driven by statute and timing for the start of school. The revisions covered policy numbers including 1200 (anti-discrimination), 3131 (procurement plan), 3132 (internal controls), 3410 (safe driving record standard), 4003/4009 (anti-discrimination/harassment/retaliation and drug/substance use), 5001/5004 (admission and enrollment), 5201/5202.1 (promotion/retention and FERPA notification), 5301/5401 (association activities and anti-retaliation), and others. Motion by Lang, second by Polk; the board approved the revisions by roll call.
