Commission hears updates on archery-range grant, public sculpture and urban forestry grant application

Rick outlined three capital items: a DNR shooting-range grant to improve the archery range, installation of the 'Abundant' sculpture with paver walkways near the Riverwalk kayak launch, and a planned urban forestry grant application for 2027 to update the forestry master plan and supplement next year’s street-tree planting budget.
"The grant is a 75, percent match to our 25%. The total project's about 58,000," Rick said, noting the grant will add parking closer to the range to improve accessibility and that construction is expected to be put out to bid this fall with work next spring.
He said the sculpture installation is scheduled for August and that staff have hired a contractor to install pavers to access the site. Rick also said the urban forestry grant would fund an update to the master plan and support street-tree planting in the coming year.
Commissioners asked questions about project scope and timing; staff said bids and engineering work are being completed and that the sculpture and grant application timelines are proceeding.
