PFAS treatment plans at 60%; district awaiting January sample results and plans summer mobilization

The District reported PFAS treatment design work at 60% for Cedar Glen and Bernina plants, a pending blended sample taken Jan. 14, and a tentative mobilization date for PFAS equipment in summer 2025; the Board was told current blends use about 67% lake water, 13% groundwater and 20% imported CLAWA water.
Operations Manager Matt Brooks updated the Board on PFAS monitoring and treatment design progress.
Brooks said the District took a blended, treated sample at Bernina on Jan. 14 and is awaiting lab results; staff will use that result to assess compliance with the stated California threshold of 10 parts per trillion for PFOA. He reported the three-source blend for Nov–Jan was approximately 67% lake water, 13% groundwater and 20% imported CLAWA water. "PFAS Treatment Design plans have been received at 60% complete for both the Cedar Glen Treatment Plant and the Bernina Treatment Plant, and the District has submitted comments back to the engineers," he said. Brooks added that staff plans a meeting with the Division of Drinking Water to review plans and that tentative mobilization of PFAS treatment equipment is expected in summer 2025.
The Board asked questions about sampling frequency and permitting; staff said they will coordinate with state reviewers to facilitate permits and construction.
