District reports major leaks, hydrant upkeep and no known out-of-service fire hydrants

Field Operations Manager Nathan Porter reported on the District's valve and hydrant maintenance program and summarized Q4 service work and leaks.
Porter said the District performs valve exercising and hydrant flushing as a proactive strategy and treats repairs as a high priority. "There are currently no known out-of-service fire hydrants in the District," he reported. In Q4 staff completed 15 service line replacements and repaired 12 main leaks. He detailed three larger incidents: a 205,000-gallon leak from a broken coupling on a 6-inch main; a 12,384-gallon leak on a 6-inch steel cross-country main; and a 2,242,000-gallon leak on the Golf Course — the latter volume is an approximate measurement based on a timeline provided by Golf Course staff and complicated by a nearby natural spring.
Wastewater collection activity in Q4 included 39 new feet of pipe installed and nine internal pipe repairs; there were no sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) reported for the quarter. Board members asked for hydrant maintenance logs and additional verification of materials for projects during board comments.
