LACSD sets 2025 water objective lower than 2024; will seek seasonal population variance

The District said its 2024 Water Objective (1,203 acre-feet) was met; the 2025 objective is 1,140 acre-feet. GM Catherine Cerri said the District will apply for a Seasonal Population Variance because the State assumes the District serves 7,000 residents.
General Manager Catherine Cerri told the board that state water-use-efficiency rules enacted in 2018 require suppliers to calculate a water budget and that this is the first year the District must both calculate the objective and compare actual use.
Cerri said the 2024 Water Objective budget was 1,203 acre-feet and the District met it; the 2025 objective has been calculated at 1,140 acre-feet and District staff will monitor usage closely because overall water use year-to-date is higher. She said the State Water Board currently assumes the District serves 7,000 people, and that “the District will apply for a Seasonal Population Variance” to reflect wavering population in the service area.
The Board discussed monitoring usage and tools to reduce outdoor irrigation demand. The District did not adopt additional regulatory restrictions at this meeting; staff will return with data and any recommended measures if consumption trends exceed the 2025 objective.
