LACSD says PFAS tests steady; 30% designs submitted for two treatment plants

The Lake Arrowhead Community Services District reported that quarterly PFAS raw-water test results for North Bay and Wells 1, 2 and 8 were in line with earlier samples, and staff confirmed ongoing design work for treatment projects.
"30% plans have been submitted to the District for the Bernina Water Treatment Plant," Operations Manager Matt Brooks said, and he added that plans for the Cedar Glen Treatment Plant were received Nov. 4, 2024. Brooks told the board the District has reviewed both sets of designs and is awaiting a meeting with the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water, to discuss the projects.
The report did not identify any new exceedances of PFAS in the samples discussed at the meeting. Board members asked questions about next steps; staff noted schedule and regulatory review, and that rehabilitation of a large well (new pump and motor) should return additional well capacity in the coming weeks. Public comment was received during the update.
The District is pursuing design and regulatory coordination rather than immediate new treatment construction until the Division of Drinking Water provides input on the submitted plans. The General Manager previously noted the District has processed consumer rebates for in-home PFAS removal filters, underscoring a parallel short-term mitigation approach while designs progress.
