Red Lion Borough Council voted Oct. 13 to advertise a proposed 1.0 mill property tax increase for 2026 and to suspend donations for the year, measures councilors said are needed to close an identified deficit.
Treasurer Amanda Runkle told council that “a 1 mil will give a yearly increase of approximately $250,000” and explained that a 1.0 mill increase equates to about $100 in annual tax per $100,000 of assessed value. Council members cast recorded preferences during the recessed budget session: Heister, Holloway, Musso and Greer signaled support for the 1.0 mill with the no-donations proviso; Klinedinst favored a 0.5 mill increase; Lau preferred 0.6. The motion to advertise the 1.0 mill budget carried; the borough will present the advertised budget for formal action at the Nov. 10, 2025 council meeting.
Council members stressed concerns for seniors and households on fixed incomes but said the borough's current deficit and delayed infrastructure needs make action necessary. The advertised budget notice will begin the public-review window and set a date for final council action.
