Fort Township supervisor urges Sanilac County health review of solar-array health concerns

Walt Badgerow, supervisor of Fort Township, presented to the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners about a memorandum and recent Saint Clair County Department of Health advisory-board meeting that he said raised health concerns tied to utility-scale solar installations and the associated electrical equipment. "It is believed for many, myself included, that there's a loophole in public act 2 33," Badgerow told commissioners, urging local health officials to consider the issue.
Badgerow said the Saint Clair advisory meeting included a medical director and a retired physician identified in materials as Dr. Nevin, who raised symptoms he linked to the electrical systems for solar projects. "Tinnitus is a real big concern," Badgerow quoted from the presentation. He said those speakers described complaints including migraines, depression and sleep disturbance and suggested a role for health-department review and observation during construction.
The board discussed placing the memorandum on the county Board of Health agenda so members of that body could read and provide feedback. Badgerow said he would try to arrange for a fuller presentation at the next local health-board meeting and provide materials in advance. No formal action was taken by the commission; the presentation was informational and the chair asked county health leadership to consider follow-up.
