Heritage Pines board approves $19,200 algae-treatment contract with Premier Lakes

The Heritage Pines Community Development District Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Oct. 15 to award a $19,200 pond-algae treatment contract to Premier Lakes, Inc., a measure the District Manager said would reduce annual costs by roughly $3,200 compared with the SOLitude contract.
District Manager Chuck Adams presented the proposal and described the transition plan: if approved, he said he would initiate SOLitude’s 30-day termination clause to end services on Nov. 30, 2024, and Premier Lakes would begin service on Dec. 1, 2024. On the motion by Supervisor Michael Walsh, seconded by Carol Vaughan, the Board approved the proposal.
During discussion, resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude uses in the lakes; Adams said SOLitude uses a copper-based product that targets algae and that any odor is from degasification of the algae and typically lasts a couple of days. Adams also noted the Premier Lakes proposal had greater detail than SOLitude’s reports, and the Board removed Item 19 from the to-do list tied to the vendor change.
The vote was recorded as unanimous with all five Supervisors present and in favor. The Board’s action was recorded in the meeting minutes as the Premier Lakes, Inc. Proposal for Pond Algae Treatment in the amount of $19,200, approved.
