The Mayor informed the committee that several local volunteer departments received award notices from the Tennessee State Fire Marshal's grant program and urged all departments to monitor and apply for available grants.
"For those that didn't hear at home watching, Summitville got 34,000 And Hickerson Station got 23,000," the Mayor said while encouraging departments to pursue available grant funding to reduce local requests. Michael (Summitville assistant chief) said Summitville had been awarded about $34,500 and that he was unable to attend the ceremony because of work obligations but had sent notice to the department.
Committee members said grant awards ease pressure on county resources and called for departments to stay engaged with the Fire Marshal's office and its postings; one participant noted the Fire Marshal's Facebook page had already posted photos from the awards program. The Mayor urged departments to apply next cycle to secure additional funding.
