Council approves multiple event street closures; Crossroads hayride request withdrawn over liability concerns

Council approved several event and traffic items on the public-works agenda. Anna Corbett (Miller's Senior Living) requested a partial street closure for a walkathon on Saturday, Aug. 15 starting at 9:00 a.m.; council approved the request. Tracy Rehan (Blueberry Festival) asked to close Michigan Street and portions of West Garrow on Saturday, Sept. 5, 7 a.m.–7 p.m., for a free basketball event; council approved that request as well and confirmed downtown merchants had been consulted.
A resident request to remove parking on the north side of Garrow Street (near Water Street) was approved and no-parking signs will be placed to improve sightlines. Mark Reed (Crossroads Church) sought permission for a hayride route Aug. 2 but withdrew after council members raised liability and Greenway/park concerns; staff noted motorized vehicles on the Greenway require specific authorization and the council was reluctant to set a precedent.
