Sperry approves multiple fire department roster additions and training funding

The Sperry Board of Trustees approved multiple personnel changes and training requests for the Sperry Volunteer Fire Department during its May 14 meeting. The board added Haylee Johnson (secretary, probationary), Brandon Johnson, Zack Kimsey, Blake Wensman and Kaley Barger (firefighters, probationary), and Randall Williamson and Samantha Green (ambulance roles). A unanimous vote also removed Mary Dean from the department roster "for the good of the service."
The board approved Kaley Barger's Basic EMT class from Heartland Education, Inc. at a cost not to exceed $1,100, with the funds to come from the fire department savings account and an agreement that Barger will provide two years of service or reimburse the town. Trustees also approved EMR training for 13 volunteer firefighters at $450 each, for a total not to exceed $5,850, to be paid from the Emergency Services savings account; the class was scheduled to begin in late May or early June 2026.
