Village moves to reduced summer yard-waste schedule amid staff time concerns

Director of Public Works Keith Leitzinger raised concerns that staff were spending substantial time collecting debris and large logs placed by private property owners, noting municipalities commonly limit pickup to naturally fallen or storm debris. He proposed possible limits such as a maximum diameter for materials the Village will collect and asked the Board to consider whether current practice is sustainable.
After discussion about aesthetics, operational burden and service to elderly or mobility-limited residents, the Board agreed to adopt a Monday/Wednesday/Friday collection schedule for the summer and to evaluate effectiveness in August. Leitzinger separately proposed once-monthly pickup for sticks and larger brush; that approach will be reviewed in the coming months.
