Board approves annual water-meter replacement program and sanitary inspection form; curb-stop and sign repairs discussed
Summary
Trustees approved buying about $4,500 of replacement water meters for 2026 as part of a multi-year replacement cycle instead of purchasing testing equipment. Leitzinger reported that quotes for meter-testing equipment exceeded $10,000 and that many existing meters cannot be rebuilt due to discontinued parts. After consulting the village engineer and water advisor Larry Gates, he proposed an annual meter replacement program at roughly $4,500 per year to replace about 25–30 meters each cycle so the fleet would be substantially replaced in about three years. Trustees approved the ~$4,500 purchase for the 2026 season.
Clerk Atterbury presented and the Board approved the Village Sanitary Sewer Inspection Form. She clarified that while the ordinance allows property owners to hire a licensed plumber to perform a sump-pump discharge inspection, that option is voluntary; village staff remain available to conduct inspections at no cost and the village may reinspect for compliance.
Leitzinger also reported two non-functional curb stops that spin when the wrench is applied and recommended replacement. He asked staff to obtain rental-excavator quotes as an in-house option (instead of $~2,000 per location contracting with Hermsen's) since locations are grassy and liability exposure is lower. He also reported faded stop signs and improperly anchored poles and will obtain County Highway quotes for replacement poles. The Board approved staff to obtain quotes for equipment rental and sign-pole replacements for the next meeting.
