Village adopts tighter snow-and-ice removal rule, sets alternate-side parking schedule

The Village of Bloomington board voted on Feb. 2 to adopt Ordinance 2026-01, updating Ordinance 8.07 (snow and ice removal) and Ordinance 4.07 (parking).
Under the new snow-and-ice language, property owners must remove snow within 24 hours after snowfall ceases and are prohibited from pushing snow onto another property, into the road, or blocking fire hydrants, Chief Small explained. For alternate-side parking, the ordinance would take effect Nov. 15 through April 1, with parking on southwest sides on odd-numbered days and northeast sides on even-numbered days; enforcement is scheduled to begin next winter season to give residents time to adjust.
The change was approved on a unanimous motion. The board did not impose immediate enforcement this season; trustees said they wanted to notify residents before citations begin. The ordinance update follows discussion of recent winter parking complaints and multiple 48-hour parking citations issued during snow events.
