NJDOE pauses roll-out of new SGO expectations for tenured teachers; district to roll forward 2023–24 SGO scores

A district administrator briefed the board on recent New Jersey Department of Education guidance affecting teacher evaluations. The administrator said the state issued a temporary pause on the collection of new Student Growth Objectives (SGOs) for tenured teachers for 2024–25 and that the SGO scores from 2023–24 will roll forward for tenured staff.
"The SGO scores will be from the 2324 school year into this year," the administrator said, and added that the pause does not apply to teachers in their first year of employment, teachers without a preexisting SGO record, and non‑tenured teachers, who will still need to create SGOs this year. Staff noted the state released a July 31 FAQ and said a memo will be sent to all staff in late August outlining evaluation implications and expectations.
