DRB member Rob Simms outlines town plan update, resident survey and proposed June open house

Rob Simms, a member of Sutton evelopment Review Board, told the Select Board the DRB has received a grant to mail a resident survey and will post the same questionnaire online to gather community input as it updates the town—ylaws and town plan.
"The DRB Board received a grant for mailing the surveys to the town residents; to include paying for an open house/informational meeting with a light meal served for the town residents to explain why the By-laws/town plan needs to be updated to comply with the regional plan mandates which is in influx because of Act 181 and land use issues being written up by NVDA," Simms said. He said the survey and open house are intended to collect resident feedback on required plan components including education, land use, energy, transportation, flood resilience and short-term rentals.
Simms told the board the DRB expects the Select Board to approve the updated bylaws and town plan by December 2026 so the measures can go before voters at the 2027 annual town meeting. He also said the DRB objects to several aspects of Act 181, including mapping changes and reclassification of land previously in current use, and intends to complete the town plan locally before resolving those conflicts with regional mandates.
Town Clerk/Treasurer Patti McClure said she will check with the school about using school facilities on June 18, 2026, to host the open house and launch the mailed survey.
