Board approves CEQA Notice of Exemption for Hermosa Valley School modernization; staff clarifies Coastal Commission is separate

The board approved item 11.2 directing staff to file a Notice of Exemption (NOE) under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for the Hermosa Valley School modernization project and to file the NOE with the Los Angeles County Clerk.
"The recommendation is that the notice of exemption, NOE, pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Control or CEQA for the Hermosa Valley modernization project and the direct staff to file the notice of exemption with the Los Angeles County Clerk be approved," Miss Montalvo said while presenting the item. A staff member clarified the NOE is an administrative filing and noted it carries a $25 fee.
A staff explainer distinguished the CEQA administrative filing from review by the Coastal Commission, telling board members the two processes are separate and that the Coastal Commission may have jurisdiction over some sites on the coast. The staff explainer also described the public review window and how the NOE informs the public and gives interested parties 35 days to respond. The board voted by voice to approve the NOE.
