At its May 13 meeting the board approved the 2026–27 Hermosa Beach City School District calendar and a series of action items including environmental and facility contracts and compensation changes.
Staff recommended adopting a calendar aligned with Manhattan Beach Unified School District to ease student transitions to MiraCosta High School; the calendar was approved by unanimous voice vote. The board adopted resolution 152526 recognizing benefits of "green and healthy learning environments" and directing development of a district greening index, a sustainability advisory task force and a long‑range environmental sustainability plan. The board also approved the Greater Los Angeles Area SELPA master contract for nonpublic agency and school services for 2026–27, an amendment for additional topographic/utility survey work for the Hermosa Valley School Measure HV project, a contract amendment with SVA Architects (civil engineering for a Hermosa Vista field replacement and Coastal Commission application) and Millennium Consulting Associates for hazardous‑materials consulting for the Measure HV modernization work (not to exceed $71,106, funded by Measure HV).
On personnel and finances, the board approved an increase in substitute teacher compensation to compete with neighboring districts and reduce reliance on contracted services, approved a certificated occupational therapy assistant (COTA) job description and salary placement to expand in‑house services, and approved amended classified salary schedules and stipend job descriptions aligned with the HBEA agreement. All listed action items passed by voice vote during the meeting.
