Hermosa Beach board hears midyear LCAP update, assessment rollouts

The Hermosa Beach City School District board on Feb. 4 received a midyear Local Control and Accountability Plan update from staff, who said the district is in year two of a three‑year LCAP cycle and is using data to refine actions tied to its strategic plan. “We are in year 2 of our LCAP of a 3 year LCAP,” a presenter said, noting the district tracks implementation with green/partially implemented/unknown markers and is aiming for a roughly 2% annual academic-growth target against its 2023–24 baseline.
Presenters highlighted the district’s unduplicated pupil rate at about 8%, three school sites, and roughly 200 staff. They called out specific budget and program items: a $9,988 learning recovery emergency block grant received for the year; planned Chromebook refresh work; and partially implemented initiatives such as a reading-intervention coach that was discontinued. The team also previewed assessment and climate measures to be deployed: I‑Ready for grades 2–8 in February, the DIBELS K–2 screener in mid‑February, the California Healthy Kids and California Staff surveys in March, and a strategic-plan survey in April. A presenter described the DIBELS rollout as “brand new to us” and said parents will receive family reports after the assessment window closes.
