Council hears update on building inspection authority; paperwork due for October state meeting

We're, like, 44 days before the meeting, so we missed out on the July meeting. We've had troubles getting a hold of anybody at the state, but to our understanding, we are on the agenda for the October meeting," the official said. Councilmembers asked staff to keep the public informed and to use the manager's contact information so residents can reach staff directly with questions about permitting and timelines.
Council members said returning building inspection services to local control remains a priority for housing and for clearing permit backlogs. Staff cautioned that if the state meeting lacks a quorum, the process could be delayed several months.
