Michael Dotan, representing residents near Cloudland Road, asked the board to approve a coordinated closure for the peak foliage period to reduce traffic jams, parking, trash, and related disturbances. He said Pomfret's Select Board supports the closure and that Pomfret residents will pay for patrols and staffing on their side of the road.
The board discussed signage (a large rental sign at the Billings Farm island), patrol staffing and costs, and whether Woodstock should pay for the sign. Dotan said residents would cover patrol costs and were comfortable not renting the large sign this year. The motion to close the road "under 23 VSA section 10 10" was moved, seconded, and passed.
Select Board members said the closure is an experiment for this year and asked to monitor outcomes; one member said the town would coordinate placement of closure signage to avoid traffic impacts at key junctions.
