Barry County approves services contract for Rock the Country at Expo Center

Barry County commissioners voted to approve a contract and addendum with 46 Entertainment and Peachtree Entertainment to provide county services — including 911 and emergency management — for the Rock the Country concert to be held Aug. 8–9 at the Barry County Expo Center.
Staff warned the event will stretch a small county's resources because union agreements require triple wages for certain staffing roles at large events. "For the event, it's triple wages," a county staff member said, noting the union provision increases costs though it does not change benefits. Public safety representatives and the sheriff's office described planning challenges around staffing, traffic flow and bathroom access for large crowds; staff said private security companies have been contracted to help on site and the county is charging the event for services to cover costs.
The board moved, seconded and approved the contract by roll call. Staff said the county will collect a deposit and expects the event organizer and partners to coordinate logistics with emergency management, sheriff's deputies and 911 to limit impacts on regular county services.
