Barry County commissioners voted to approve Resolution 26‑21, authorizing submission of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for the Delton Stepping Stones housing project and naming the county administrator as the certifying officer for the grant.
Staff described the process the county will follow if the grant is awarded, including an environmental review and the county administrator signing required documents. "The action we need you to take is to adopt resolution 26 21, which would authorize the submission of an application for the grant for which we had the public hearing," said the county staff member leading the presentation, adding that the certifying officer will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance. Commissioner Bassett said she would abstain from the vote but called the proposal "a huge benefit for our community," noting no fiscal impact to the county because administrative costs would come out of the grant.
The motion to adopt Resolution 26‑21 was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. The clerk recorded 'aye' votes from a majority of commissioners, one absence, and the motion carried. Staff said the county will provide updates on project progress as grant steps move forward.
