Superintendent says 96% of teaching positions filled ahead of term

Superintendent Dr. Longshore told the Highlands County School Board that new-teacher orientation was "wonderful" and that district hiring is largely complete ahead of the school year. "We have 96% of our positions filled," she said, noting 28 openings and about 79 teachers currently on staff.
Longshore highlighted that several new teachers are alumni who returned after earning degrees and that career and technical education and dual-enrollment brochures for Highlands County were available to board members. She said some staff will return to work in the coming days and that enrollment and staffing details will be clearer roughly two weeks after school begins. The superintendent also reminded the board of a planned closed executive session on collective bargaining following the meeting.
