The Regional School District No. 17 Board of Education voted unanimously Aug. 19 to buy antivirus software for $21,606 and to fund server operations at $648.
Interim Superintendent Paul K. Smith reported that "the Chromebooks are ready, and the viewboards that were approved have been purchased and installed," and he said technology staff identified outdated antivirus protections as a primary concern. The Technology department, led by Chance Davis and Emily McLauglin, presented a proposed action plan for software and a scheduled server update. Director of Finance and Operations Karen Asetta said she will research using E-rate funds to offset some of the costs.
Board Member Jennifer Voegtli moved the purchase and Heather Pach seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote recorded as 9-0-0.
