Mary Baumgartner elected council president in unanimous vote

The City Council elected Mary Baumgartner as council president for the 2026 calendar year at the Jan. 13 meeting. Councilor Bridal nominated Baumgartner; the nomination was seconded and, after Baumgartner accepted, the council confirmed her by roll call.
The mayor then presented appointments to advisory boards: Clinton Springer to the Library Advisory Board and Samantha Thorson and Amy Shower to the Sustainability Advisory Board. Council moved, seconded and approved the appointments by roll call. The mayor and council encouraged broader outreach to fill additional advisory-board vacancies.
Council president Baumgartner will also assume the library liaison duties; other liaison changes approved included Councilor Groener taking the transportation advisory assignment and Councilor Bridal taking the arts and culture assignment.
