Adams County approves $12.14 million in open‑space grants to 22 projects

The Chair of the Adams County Board of County Commissioners announced the approval of $12,141,008.49 in Open Space Sales Tax Grant awards to 22 projects and called awardees forward for recognition and photos.
"So today, we are very pleased to award over $12,000,000 to applicants from our Adams County Open Space Sales Tax Grant Program," the Chair said as the board moved and approved the resolution. The chair thanked the Open Space advisory board and listed members by name for their volunteer service: Mark Stickle, Mark Voland, Janine Feist, Paul Orland and Chelyssa Shorten.
Awards ranged from municipal park improvements to conservation and education projects. Among those named on the dais: the Town of Bennett received $70,000 for Civic Center Park ball field improvements; the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies was awarded $710,000 for environmental education; Friends of the Front Range Wildlife Refuge received more than $900,000 for a nature play area at Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge; Highland Hills Park and Recreation District was awarded three grants (including $2,870,000 for Phase 2 of Carol Butts Park); and Adams County was awarded funding for a water‑rights acquisition project ($3,430,000) and a natural heritage survey ($17,500).
Staff asked recipients to stay for a group photo and directed the public to adamscountyco.gov for project descriptions. The board presented all awards in front of the dais and approved the resolution by voice vote.
