District reports sprinkler leaks, lighting outages and a fire-marshall deadline at former Central Office

Miguel Gautier, Jr., Executive Director of District Operations, told the committee several facilities issues require attention and, in one case, immediate action. He said the old Central Office had its sprinkler lines winterized after closure, and after a walkthrough with the Fire Marshal the district was allotted 30 days to restore sprinklers and heat to comply with the updated fire code related to material percentages in the building.
Gautier also reported unrelated problems across district facilities: lighting at the STEM building on the high school campus has been out for some time and remains an open work order with the City; a vehicle recently struck a pole at the old Jefferson Ave front entrance, creating an electrical short; and the high school connector suffered two significant sprinkler leaks caused by freezing pipes. He said the district is actively working on insulating pipes — insulation that, he noted, was not installed during the connector’s construction.
Gautier characterized some repairs as constrained by external factors: the STEM lights are under a City work order and repairs involve union labor that the district cannot perform directly. Committee members recorded the reports but did not take additional formal actions at the meeting.
