Auburn USD launches ‘Arrive and Thrive’ attendance push, standardizes letters and supports

District director of student support Kelly Young presented a package of attendance-improvement measures the district will roll out next school year, including standardized communications, recognition and data-driven interventions.
Young said staff created a chronic absenteeism and truancy matrix and produced 18 standardized parent letters (English and Spanish) to ensure consistent communication with families. The district will pilot targeted bus routing to help address a heat-map of chronic absences in portions of the Auburn Elementary attendance area and will promote a district slogan, "Arrive and Thrive — Present Today, Prepared for Tomorrow," to increase connectedness and on-time attendance. Young also described plans for monthly site-level recognition and incentives and a tiered intervention model for attendance recovery.
"If we cannot help students get access to the house, then learning isn't gonna happen," Young told trustees, referring to the district's 'house diagram' framing for attendance supports. Staff said streamlined processes and collaboration with families aim to reduce chronic absenteeism and improve student outcomes.
